And The Winner Is...Oy

Sphere: Related Content

Via John Derbyshire at The Corner

While we are all thrilled to watch Hillary and the the lovely Barry Obama beat each other senseless on a daily basis, the thrill is soon gone when we realize that the likely beneficiary of all that whacking is the guy over there on the left.

John Derbyshire over on The Corner points out the following:

According to Fox News, according to Andy:

McCain said the United States' goal in fighting Islamic extremists should be "to win the hearts and minds of the vast majority of moderate Muslims who do not want their future controlled by a minority of violent extremists.

"In this struggle, scholarships will be far more important than smart bombs.

"So–o–o–o, Senator, you favor bringing in even more students from Muslim Middle East nations —even more than the 15,000 extra Saudi students the President favors. Is that right?

What a great idea, Senator. What a wonderful, visionary idea. I just hope the flight schools can handle them all.

Yeah, if whoever gets the Dem nod is crippled and can't win we get this guy, instead. Besides the above bit of brilliance, today he also said,

"We need to listen to the views and respect the collective will of our democratic allies."

While I understand the need to toss around diplomatic blather, I can't help but wonder what "collective will" he's talking about? The kind that comes out of the UN? The kind of "will" you find in Spain? In Germany? Italy? This kind of claptrap is the type of drivel that the State Department and a world full of America-haters love to hear.

Sometimes I despair.

NewsFlash: Saudi Women Now Allowed To Drive (Maybe)

Sphere: Related Content

The early 20th Century has now arrived in Saudi Arabia as the Saudi Shura Council has made a recommendation to let women drive. As we all know this is a risky move on the Shura's part. If they begin to see this as a trend women may begin to make other mad demands such as asking that they no longer be considered to be household property, for the right to go unescorted by a male relative in public or the right to be raped without then being flogged by Saudi authorities.

To prevent such awful possibilities the Shura has attached certain limitations in their recommendations. These limitations are:

  • The woman driver must be under 30. The woman's driving is conditional upon the permission of a relative [father, husband, brother, or son].

  • The woman driver must obtain a driver's license from the center for teaching women to drive.

  • The woman driver must be modestly dressed.

  • The woman driver will be permitted to drive alone in the cities, but outside the cities she must be accompanied by a relative.

  • The woman driver will be permitted to drive Saturday through Wednesday between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

  • The woman driver must have a cell phone with her, so she can call for help in an emergency.

  • The woman driver must pay a certain sum when her license is issued; this sum will be set aside for car repairs.

The Shura Council also ordered the following:

  • The establishment of a special women's transportation department; this department will collect the fees.

  • The establishment of a telephone emergency center.

  • The establishment of transportation centers for women in the cities, which will be under religious supervision.

  • The council stipulated that a woman driver who violates these rules will have her license revoked.

If this keeps up, what's next: Women burning their hijabs??
