Hillary: I Run Because...

Hillary Clinton had a piece in Monday's NY Daily News in which she claims she wants to accomplish two main goals: explain her recent (massively criticized by the Left) comments about June being the month Bobby Kennedy was assassinated (the more perceptive folks in the liberal media seeing through her clever ruse of using some sort of trigger code to her murderous minions to take out Barack Obama) and to explain to one and all why she is still running despite the odds and the clamour for her to get out of the race.

On the first point she doesn't fare very well. In the way of an explanation she tells us she said:

I made clear that I was - and that I thought the urgency to end the 2008 primary process was unprecedented. I pointed out, as I have before, that both my husband's primary campaign, and Sen. Robert Kennedy's, had continued into June.

She then apologizes...well, kinda. The only problem here is she doesn't mention the part of her statement that really caused the furor; that little assassination thing. It usually helps to identify the sincerity of your apology if you honestly state what you did that was perceived as being offensive. Lacking that honesty confessions tend to look a bit self-serving. (Actually honesty probably would have worked better as her comment about Kennedy being assassinated really isn't anywhere near the opprobrium that the Left has made it out to be. Normal people would see that she was apologizing for a pretty minor offense. )

On her second point - why she's staying in the race - she isn't completely truthful, either. She says that one of her major motivations is that:

I am running because I still believe I can win on the merits. Because, with our economy in crisis, our nation at war, the stakes have never been higher - and the need for real leadership has never been greater - and I believe I can provide that leadership.

Ok. Here she's probably being up-front. She thinks she can win on the intrinsic rightness of her getting the nomination due to all her sterling qualities. Well, I guess all Presidents have to have an ego big enough to believe that and God knows that Hillary lacks for nothing in the ego department.

She then goes on to tell a whopper:

I am running because I believe staying in this race will help unite the Democratic Party. I believe that if Sen. Obama and I both make our case - and all Democrats have the chance to make their voices heard - in the end, everyone will be more likely to rally around the nominee.

Yeeeessss, I think everyone can see how "unifying" this race has been; Bill playing the infamous (boo hiss) race card, Hillary attacking the probable nominee's experience. No, no hard feeling in this race. I'm sure all Obama's supporters would be climbing all over each other to line up and vote for Hillary if she were to nab the nomination from him. And alternatively, all her voters are over the moon about Obama, too. Yeah, unity. That's what its all about.

I believe I won a 40-point victory two weeks ago in West Virginia and a 35-point victory in Kentucky this past week - despite voters being repeatedly told this race is over - because I'm standing up for them. I'm standing up for the deepest principles of our party and for an America that values the middle class and rewards hard work.

Finally, I am running because I believe I'm the strongest candidate to stand toe-to-toe with Sen. McCain. Delegate math might be complicated - but electoral math is not. Our campaign is winning the popular vote - and we've been winning the swing states we need to get 270 electoral votes and take back the White House: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Arkansas, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, Michigan, Florida and West Virginia.

Reminding folks what a weak candidate Obama is is another great unifying point, isn't it?

Somehow, in this beautiful statement of principles Hillary forgets one other small reason that she's running: She is the most ambitious woman in the history of the planet. She stuck around with that philandering jerk, liar of a husband and withstood all the indignities and trivialities of being First Lady (sexist, moronic term, that!) because it would get her closer to the Presidency. She's been a faithful Lefty for decades and YOU DAMN PEOPLE DAMN WELL BETTER GET THAT SOB OBAMA OUT OF MY WAY, VOTE FOR ME AND GET MY ASS INTO OFFICE OR ELSE!

And that is the real reason Hillary continues to run.

Oh The Horror - Dems As They Really Are

The Democratic primaries have become, as they were destined to do, become a lanced boil in which all the America-hating, race-baiting, class-envying hypocritical ooze has come spilling out for all the world to see. The Dems are forever pretending to get the vapors over the "divisiveness" they impute to the Republicans. But no election season in recent memory has been as suffused with all that is ugly and wrong with America as has this one.

The Reverand Jeremiah Wright is the man of the moment, thundering around from sycophantic interviewers (hello, Bill Moyers) to friendly churches to whoever else may sit in rapt attention at his race-centric rants. In one moment he's deriding America:

The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law, and then wants us to sing God bless America? No, no, no. Not God bless America; God damn America! That's in the Bible, for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating her citizen as less than human. God damn America as long as she keeps trying to act like she is God and she is supreme!

In the next moment he is "instructing us on his race-centered and peculiar theories of "black learning" and "white learning":

African and African-American children have a different way of learning.

They are right brained, subject oriented in their learning style. Right brain that means creative and intuitive. Subject oriented means they learn from a subject, not an object. They learn from a person. Some of you are old enough, I see your hair color, to remember when the NAACP won that tremendous desegregation case back in 1954 and when the schools were desegregated. They were never integrated. When they were desegregated in Philadelphia, several of the white teachers in my school freaked out. Why? Because black kids wouldn't stay in their place. Over there behind the desk, black kids climbed up all on them.

Race race race race. He doesn't see an American history that we all share and that has created the America we live in. He sees the oppressor majority history and then the African-American-victim history, the abuser history and the history of the abused. He thrives on resentment and separation. His thinking is the natural result of Democratic identity politics which itself thrives on the very same resentments as it is their strategy to achieve elective power.

But he's not the only example of the ugliness of this Democratic campaign. There's the undercurrent of America-hate that pours out of Barack Obama's wealthy wife who has said,

“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country, because it feels like hope is making a comeback.”

and,

That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation.

But we don't have to stick to the Obama side of the campaign to see how unpleasant politicians
can make politics. While Obama is constantly reminding us of the Audacity of Hope, Hillary Clinton just reminds us of audacity:


But as we already know, audacity is a Clinton-family trait:


The Democratic freak show rolls on and on, appearing nightly on your TV screens and computer monitors and newspapers: Bill Ayers, wishing he'd only done a better job of blowing America up; Obama and Clinton rushing to say who would abandon Iraq faster even if the military command said that it would lead to an Iraqi government collapse; Barack wanting to raise the capital gains tax even while admitting cutting it raises revenues, for the sole reason of sticking it to the rich and successful.

For those with open minds the Democrats are proving day after day the emptiness of their high-minded rhetoric. And for the first time I actually believe that, because they now have revealed their true nature, the Democrats are going to lose the general election. The Republican party may be seem like the stupid party a good deal of the time but in 2008 it looks like they may just wind up being the lucky party, too.

If you didn't know better you would almost believe that Bill Clinton is working undercover for Obama. Interviews like the one above show him off in all his venality, defensiveness and dishonesty. Sounding thin-skinned and somewhat dumb it is astonishing that this is the guy the media touts as being one of the best political minds of our time. Hillary is lucky that the other spouse in the game, Michelle Obama may be Bill's equal in terms of being a loose cannon.

Know them by the company they keep.

While it is, of course entertaining watching the video above in which Bill Clinton tries to explain why his signing the Defense Of Marriage Act was a great triumph for liberalism, it somehow got me to thinking what it would be like if instead of running against an African-American Hillary were running against a gay man. Instead of playing the race card Bill would, of course be playing the gay card. Picture, if you will, Bill doing his gay impression. I'm thinking Rudy in a dress without the sense of humor. Think of the visual, if you have the courage. It is not for the weak, my friends.

After hearing about New York Governor Eliot Spitzer's admission yesterday of his involvement with a prostitution ring my first reaction was: Oh, so that's what its going to be. By that I mean I was somewhat surprised about the particulars of the revelation but I can't say that I was surprised that Spitzer, well known as arrogant, heavy-handed, mean, vindictive, egotistical and just plain unpleasant, had managed to shoot himself in the foot.

When I heard that he'd been elected, and in a landslide yet, I thought that it was just a matter of time before he would do something stupid, really stupid. Not that Spitzer himself is stupid. Far from it. Scoring a very impressive 1590 on his SATs Spitzer went on to Princeton U. undergrad before going to Harvard Law where he edited the Harvard Law Review. And his ambition has been the equal of his brains. Eliot Spitzer has never missed an opportunity to make an impression, always going after the high profile, big pr cases; going after pregnancy crisis centers to please New York's pro-abortion Left, payola in the music industry, big shot businessmen. He was a legal Master of the Universe. So taken with his own gifts and position was he that he thought anything he did was acceptable merely by virtue of the fact that he did it. He'd make calls threatening people, inappropriately used the State Police to investigate his chief nemesis, Republican State Minority Leader, Joseph L. Bruno, arrogantly issued an unpopular executive order allowing driver's licenses to be issued to illegal aliens.

He was also widely despised by almost everybody who ever had the bad fortune to have dealt with him, which explains why so few people are willing to come to his defense now. So when news came yesterday that he had finally imploded, it was not exactly the year's biggest shock.

What does surprise me however is the way the American people continue to elect catastrophes waiting to happen like Spitzer. Here's a confession: I'm not a genius; just a fairly regular guy (despite being "Right" so dang often) but I knew this guy was, what's the word I'm looking for? Oh, yeah...a freak. Couldn't the 69% of voters who put Spitzer in office see this, too? Apparently not.

But Americans have a long and impressive history of voting for dysfunctional politicians. The last fifty years alone have produced such giants of history as Louisiana Governor Earl Long, who was committed to a mental hospital while in office; Cincinnati city council member and then Mayor Jerry Springer (yes, that Jerry Springer) who resigned after a revelation of his patronizing (surprise!) a prostitute; Washington DC Mayor and crack addict Marion Barry; President Richard Nixon, whose paranoia and generally warped psyche have been fodder for books for decades and Bill Clinton, a self involved narcissist whose entire Presidency was about one thing and one thing only: him. All that is missing from each of these distinguished gents is a day glow etching of the words HELP ME on their foreheads.

Now it is a truism that bright, talented people who seek office often have gargantuan egos. Ronald Reagan was that rarity among rarities who was both an actor and a politician, both lines of work which attract egomaniacs, who was actually well adjusted.

The public can be forgiven for not spotting some political rotten apples. In the ordinary course of life everybody gets surprised by the behavior of some of the people they thought they knew, so politics, too can be expected to provide the unexpected now and then. But how do you explain an Eliot Spitzer? I wish I could provide an answer here but the subject of the election of stone cold losers doesn't come with any. It just comes with one big question for those who put them in office: What were you thinking?

Hillary's Habit - Having A Hard Time With Her Man-Hoes

Today's revelation that New York Governor and close ally of Hillary Clinton, Elliot Spitzer is under investigation for paying for sex (which will in all probability lead to his resignation and possible indictment) could not have come at a worse time for the Senator from New York/presidential candidate.

After last Tuesday's primary wins and her pounding of Barack Obama for his lack of experience and unpreparedness for the presidency, her campaign which had seemed on the verge of folding up its tent mere weeks ago was just beginning to start to get some traction again. The last thing she needs right now is a reminder of some of her own weaknesses; and a reminder of her cluelessness about the dirty dealings of the men around her is one of her most glaring failings. Hillary has, up until now been able to make two mutually incompatible "facts" work for her. On the one hand she is the wonk, the smartest, most experienced woman in the world. On the other hand she is the trusting, loving woman who stupidly trusted a rat. No normal candidate could make such inconsistency work, but Hillary is, of course no ordinary candidate.

But that inconsistency is not something she wants to remind people of, especially now when she is hitting the wet-behind-the-ears Senator from Illinois on the matter of who is ready to serve and who isn't. While it is probably unfair to expect that Hillary could have had any idea of Spitzer's sexual dalliances, it is the Democrats who have always made an issue not just of wrongdoing but even the appearance of wrongdoing and while not knowing that Spitzer was catting around may be understandable and may not mean Hillary is an idiot, it sure does make it appear that she is one. Is this naive' woman really ready to take that 3 AM crisis call in the White House that she claims she can?

It may be too impolite for Obama to come out directly and say that there is something wrong with Hillary because so many men are able to pull the wool over her eyes but behind the scenes, in off the record talks with the media, it is hard to believe that isn't exactly the message he's sending. At some point the media is likely to take that particular ball and start to run with it.

Hillary - world's smartest woman - except around scummy men who lie. That doesn't exactly make for the world's best campaign slogan. Elliot Spitzer didn't just create a problem for himself today. At a very bad point in time Hillary finds herself contending with yet another man who done her wrong.
